Bhadrachalam Temple History

Bhakta Ramadas is believed to have constructed the Bhadrachalam Temple. One day the villager was going to Jatara; hearing this, he also decided to join them. When he visited this place, he was so impressed with the idol’s appearance and place that he decided to construct the temple here.

But as he was not having many funds, he asked for the help of the villagers to contribute. Villagers asked Bhakta Ramadas to spend revenue collection money, which they will return after harvesting the crops.

Therefore, Bhakta Ramadas constructed the temple without the permission of Golconda Nawab with Rs. 6 lakhs collected from the revenues.

Soon after the construction of the temple, the Bhakat Ramadas were arrested for misuse of the revenue. The Golconda king was released when he was repaid for the revenue by Lord Rama and his brother Lakshmana itself. Who came there as a servant of Bhakta Ramadas to release their devotees from the prisons.

Influenced by Lord Rama, Golconda King Taneshah also became his follower and started offering pearls to the diety. This is the beauty of the temple.

Bhadrachalam Temple Architecture

The main idol of the temple is Lord Rama, who is built very beautifully and stands in the “Tribhanga” attitude as opposed to the “Samabhanga” pose. Sita stands near him also in Tribhanga’s attitude with the lotus in one hand.

The architecture of the temple is one of the best examples of Dravidian-style architecture and crafting. Constructed on the bank of the holy river Godavari, the temple is surrounded by a beautiful religious and spiritual atmosphere.
